July 1 - Grand Canyon

Most people visit the south rim of the Grand Canyon.  However, since we are coming from Las Vegas the North Rim is much closer...plus, the trip was booked rather late so there was no way we would have found accommodations at the South Rim.  Our first stop was a Cape Royal overlook with amazing panorama views.

Saw a cute little lizard sunning himself on a rock.

We had great views of Wotan's Throne, one the "ancient temple" formations.

Other viewpoints yielded equally magnificent views.

Chloe really enjoyed the views and enjoyed taking photographs with Grandpa's fancy camera.

We had dinner at an outdoor restaurant in Kanabe where we visited with a couple and Chloe made friends with their dog.

July 2 - Bryce Canyon

Today we drove up to Bryce Canyon National Park.  Even before we were at the main canyon the landscape was beautiful.

We drove along the canyon rim for great views.

We saw a natural bridge from the rim.

Then we took a hike down into the canyon.  Great scenery.

Unfortunately Paul had a fall.  He later went to a clinic where he discovered that he had cracked a rib.  But he managed OK.

Besides the great scenery we saw desert flowers...

and berries...

and a friendly ground squirrel.

One section of the canyon was called Fairyland Canyon.

Near the end of the drive we got out of the car and took a hike into the Mossy Cave area...

where there was a small stream for wading and a small waterfall.

Then we took a hike over to Mossy Cave where there is enough water that there was moss growing on the sides of the shallow cave (which was really a deep overhang from the cliffs).
